“For indeed Christ, our Passover was sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7
In my lifetime I have witnessed a decline in knowledge of the Bible. With each passing generation, that loss has become greater to the point now that the only Bible knowledge many have is what they hear in the media.
Unfortunately the media usually give a false idea of what the Bible says and sometimes even attribute things to the Bible that aren’t in it. All of us need to be reminded of the great truths in Scripture over and over again.
One portion of the Bible that I have read perhaps more than any other is Romans 5 to 8 yet when I read it again I realise that I again need to give special attention to this passage to refresh my mind and life with its wonderful truths.
The Passover is such an occasion for Israel. Parents were to instruct their children each year through the ritual in order to teach them the great truths of their past deliverance from Egypt and their future deliverance from sin and death.
In the New Testament, the Lord’s Supper is the same for us except we celebrate it as a church body rather than at home as family. It is a reminder, to those of us who need refreshing in the great truths of our deliverance from sin and death and reconciliation to God through Jesus Christ. It is also a means of communicating those truths to our children and unbelievers.
The cross is central to Christianity. No one goes to heaven or hell because of deeds done or not done, no matter how good or how evil and neither do they go to heaven or hell because of their parents’ beliefs. The dividing factor is the shed blood of Christ on the cross made effectual to an individual by repentance, acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord, and by God’s gracious forgiveness. The righteousness required to enter God’s kingdom is that of Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:17-20) and no man save Jesus Himself lives that. Thank God that Jesus is the Gift of God (John 3:16).
